DEA Warns of Drug Dangers, ASAC Works to Combat Overdoses

A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Public Safety Alert has been released warning Americans of the increased availability of fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine.DEA has seized fake pills in every U.S. state in large quantities, where these pills are killing unsuspecting individuals at an unprecedented rate. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 93,000 people died of a drug overdose in the United States last year.

Healthy connections highlighted at wellness fair event

The Benton County Community Health & Wellness Fair provided a comprehensive look at a remarkable number of resources readily available to residents throughout Benton County. The annual event was held for the seventh time on Saturday, October 9, using Vinton-Shellsburg High School as its venue. Over 40 exhibitors were on hand to promote a wide range of health, wellness, and community services to residents.

Virginia Gay Hospital and the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation are teaming up with area professionals in health, wellness, and safety for the seventh year. By sponsoring the Benton County Health and Wellness Fair, these experts will provide Benton County residents with many connections beneficial to their health. This free event for all ages will be held at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School, 210 W 21st St, Vinton, on Saturday, October 9.
